Why Did You Want to Become a Dentist?

Doctor Sutter and dental assistant treating a patient

Dr. Sutter always knew that he wanted to care for others, which is why he completed two degrees in psychology and biology originally. After some time in the nursing field, Dr. Sutter transitioned into dentistry. Time has proven that this was a much better direction for him, his career, his family, and his future patients! At the time, his wife was involved in the dental field, and he ended up shadowing the dentist she worked for. After witnessing a few intense surgeries, Dr. Sutter was hooked! He applied for dental school, and it turned out to be the best decision he could have possibly made.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Sutter completed his dental doctorate at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in 2005, followed by a General Practice Residency at Overlook Hospital in New Jersey. After purchasing his own dental practice, he developed a unique interest in occlusion and TMD pain and decided to devote time to developing that clinical skillset – the rest is history! Today, he has a very successful practice that patients all over the USA seek out for help with their chronic pain. He is also the accomplished author of dozens of articles explaining various improvements from treating patients with state-of-the-art DTR therapy, regularly lectures on the topic around the world, and has even helped certify other dentists who want to perform the type of care he does.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Sutter has been married to the love of his life, Shelly, for over two decades, and they have a teenage daughter. Outside of dentistry, some of his biggest passions include hiking, visiting national parks (he’s been to 49 out of 63 so far) and practicing landscape photography – in fact, he has an Instagram where you can see his work! As a hiker and traveler, he loves to seek out beautiful compositions wherever he goes.
