What is TMJ disorder?

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint disorder which is when muscles in your jaw are out of alignment. This means that ligaments, bones and joints do not fit properly, leading to severe problems.

Symptoms of TMJ disorder

  • Pain or tenderness in the jaw
  • Clicking, or popping sounds in the jaw when the mouth is closed and open
  • Spasms or cramps when yawing

What is malocclusion?

Malocclusion is the misalignment of the teeth. In some cases, malocclusion can lead to TMJ disorder. Malocclusion can be caused by missing teeth, natural shifting and cracks or chips in the teeth.

Symptoms of malocclusion

  • Pain or tenderness in the jaw
  • Ear, back and neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
